Abbeyfield Ottawa

  • Abbeyfield Houses Society of Ottawa is a non-profit organization, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  Our mandate is to provide low-cost accommodation to seniors of modest means.  Thus we keep our monthly fees for residents as low as possible.

  • Abbeyfield House Parkdale is a small retirement residence for ten people.  It is a small community of retired seniors who enjoy companionship when they want it and privacy when they need it.  The residence, at 425 Parkdale Ave. in Ottawa’s west end, provides family style accommodation.

  • Many of the residents have lived in the Parkdale or Westboro area for many years, and didn’t want to leave their neighborhood to go to a retirement residence.  They want to stay “home” without the worry of being alone, or having a house or apartment to maintain.

  • The residents are able to live a fairly independent lifestyle.  No nursing care is provided. Residents live in self-furnished bed-setting rooms, each with a private bath.

  • Two main meals are provided for residents each day and a House Manager is responsible for the overall management of the house.  A Cook/Coordinator is responsible for shopping, cooking and serving two nutritious meals daily. Breakfast is prepared by the residents themselves.

  • The House is located on Parkdale Avenue in the Westboro area, one of Ottawa’s oldest and most established neighbourhoods. It is convenient to shops and services on Wellington Street.  The Parkdale Market is nearby, and bus stops are just around the corner.

  • 24 hour security is achieved at Abbeyfield House by having a live-in assistant present overnight to respond to any needs of the residents.
