A stone's throw (if you'll excuse the somewhat inappropriate metaphor)from the busy A1(M) at Boroughbridge stand three ENORMOUS standing stones. They stand in almost a straight line, almost exactly oriented north - south. But then again how easy is it to be exact with rocks this big? The three standing stones are divided by a small road which runs between this one and its two brothers, pictured on the next page.

The southernmost of the Devil's Arrows.

This one stands right by the side of the road leaving Boroughbridge, passing under the motorway. The gate pictured is a regular farm gate, about 1.4 metres high which gives you some idea of the scale of the towering 6.9 metre tall pillar of rock.
