We drove down the road out of Avebury, adjacent to the avenue of stones sometimes called the West Kennet avenue. After counting the field boundaries on the OS 1:25,000 scale map I could tell where the circle should be. We were expecting little trace of anything, but certainly were surprised at what we did discover.

The sign reads 'Site of Falkner's Circle'. It somehow makes it worse that there is a sign to say the ancient monument is no longer there. I can only assume that the large stone was part of the circle.
