Paul Beer’s 1976 Triumph Spitfire Project
While leafing
through the local
auto trader a few years ago, I stumbled upon what I thought was
the perfect parts car
for the '76
Spitfire I had
been restoring for 11 years. A local salvage yard
was advertising a
smashed spit.
Without telling my
wife, I decided to go and take a look at it
- just out of
curiosity, of course
;-). Uh oh! Bad
move. The car turned out to be in excellent
shape with a few
"minor" cosmetic
problems.
I was
excited, but cautious. I
had to think of a
way to convince my wife that we needed
this car. Finally,
after
explaining that this was a
way to get me out of the garage sooner,
she agreed.
I proudly
had the car
delivered. My wife almost
died when she got home from work and
saw this.
My original spit (in
the background)
suddenly became my
parts car.
Here are some more pictures of my new acquisition before major reconstructive surgery...
And after...
