Emeril was born in Fall River, Mass. He developed a love for cooking while working at a local Portuguese bakery during his teenage years. He trained at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island and polished his skills in France. Emeril became Executive Chef of the famed New Orleans restaurant Commander’s Palace in 1982. In 1990 he opened the first of his own restaurants. After the failure of two television shows, he struck cords with Essence of Emeril. He is now widely known for this show Emeril Live!, with his catch phrases "Bam!" and "Kick it up a notch" being recognized by many.
