Roche Rouge campsite in Kilarney, Ontario is our favourite spot on Georgian Bay. Sun drenched rocks worn smooth by the glaciers of the past, offer a perfect spot in the evening for stargazing, or sunbathing during the day. Our beloved Golden Retriever "Cashew" gives it a 5 star rating.

Our Wee Lassie pictured above was built with a combination of white and red cedar strips and not all full length strips! Sometimes it is all too easy to get caught up with the insistance of full length strips as if a boat built with full length strips is superior. As this photo shows nothing could be further from the truth. Ask yourself the question, are you going to be seen or are you going to see?

Long length darker flawless red cedar is becoming increasingly difficult to find as most of the prime logs have been sorted and are shipped overseas. The available long length cedar that seems to be the norm is very light in colour. Do we have the right to squander such beautiful trees for our arrogance? We would like to encourage the use of shorter length strips to conserve our cedar and accept what nature gives us.

We have been promoting shorter "UPS strips" since we started to manufacture cedar strips. The colour is rich with tight vertical grain and is readily available in shorter lengths saving in material & transportation costs as well as easing the environmental pressures. After all, if the trees are gone what is left to see?

In our opinion a painted hull can show the sculptural shape of a canoe beautifully. Need more proof. Check out Martin Steps'"Winisk" We are pleased to have supplied the cedar strips for this canoe.

We hope that you enjoy your visit here.
