Welcome to my corner of the woods. Join me on a jaunt through a grouse covert. With any luck we'll scare up a couple birds, and at the least enjoy the fall colours as the dog works the ground. The bell that we're listening to is on the collar of a pointerX named Cleo. Cleo and I are entering our tenth year of chasing grouse together. We hunt in the province of Ontario, primarily for ruffed grouse and also for woodcock, rabbit and hare. I've attempted to record our days afield in an online diary. Last season's Fall 2000 hunting diary is still in need of updating, but you can read about our Fall 1999 hunting season. With Cleo aging and slowing down, it is time to start a new dog. Initially my wife and I wanted a lab, and we started making inquiries about upcoming litters of labs. But, being a grouse hunter with a pointing for the last nine years, I realized I wanted another pointing dog. After looking around at available breeds, I found the Braque Francais. This November I picked up my new puppy, Heidi. She is developing as expected, and you can read more about her and the Braque Francais here. Marc |
