2002 Brigade Drill Competition

Rules and General Information  (effective Mar 1, 2002)

1. a) The competitions will be held at: 
       Cartier Square Drill Hall
       approx Laurier Ave at the Driveway,
       downtown Ottawa.

      on Saturday April 13, 2002 ***** HAS BEEN POSTPONED *****

      Timetable:
      0800 - building/competition area available to us
      0945 - all team members must be in the competition area;
		         guests seated
      0950 - team leaders report to the Chief Judge (rule 2)
      0955 - form up
      1000 - competition commences

	  
      The competitions shall consist of two parts, 
	  inspection and drill. 
   
  b) The entry deadline is March 17, 2002 (at the Cadet Officers Meeting) 

  c) None of the team can be officers.  

  d) Team size should be 9 members + team leader (10 total). 
     The minimum team size is 6 members + team leader (7 total).  
     A spare is recommended.

2. A draw to establish the sequence of divisions will be held 
   prior to the competition. The team leader from each team will 
   report to the Chief Judge 10 minutes prior to the commencement 
   of competition (that is, at 0950). 

3. The conduct of the competition shall be as follows:

   Refer to the "Inspection Sequence" in the drill program.  

4. Dress will be work dress. For those without uniforms, every 
   effort must be made to duplicate the uniform. 
   (any such cases must be mentioned to the Chief Judge prior 
   to the start of competition).

The drill team and the drill commander will be marked separately. Awards will be given to the top drill teams and the top drill commanders. PART I - INSPECTION 1) The inspection should remain separate from the drill routine so the team members do not have to worry about their uniforms while being marked on their drill. 2) The drill commander will also be marked on his/her uniform separately from the team. 3) The team will start with 100 points and a predetermined amount will be subtracted for any uniform problems. 4) The drill commander will start with 50 points and at this time will also be marked on his/her reporting abilities. 5) The inspection will take place at the back of the parade square. 6) All members will be inspected in the following manner: 6a) Hair is put up off the collar and not hanging over the bottom part of the collar. 6b) Beret is formed properly and free of lint, cap badge is centered accordingly. 6c) Not more than one stud in each ear. 6d) Tie is on straight, is clean, and wrinkle free, must also be the standard issue black clip on. 6e) Shirt is clean, wrinkle free, badges are in proper position and sewn on neatly with proper colour thread. 6f) Jacket should be clean and wrinkle free. 6g) Pants defined crease down the front and back, black in colour, black belt, lint free, and wrinkle free. 6h) Boots/Shoes should be black, clean, and black socks should be worn. 6i) Rings and watches should not be worn for the competition. 6j) There should be no unnatural bulges in any of the pockets. 7) If a team member does not have a uniform then omit the badges on the uniform and the beret, all other standards will remain the same. INSPECTION SEQUENCE When instructed to do so the drill commander will perform the following: The inspecting officer will say "(divisional #), report". Drill commander will come to attention, face their division and bring them to attention. Drill commander will call an open order march. Drill commander will march up to the inspecting officer and halt two paces in front of him/her. Drill commander will salute and then take one pace forward. Drill commander will say "(Division #) division reporting (# of members) Cadets on parade do you wish to inspect Sir/Madam" Inspecting officer will say "Yes". Drill commander will lead the inspecting officer through the ranks slowly and the inspecting officer will mark the cadets on dress and posture. Begin with the first rank from left to right, then walk behind (looking at the back of their uniforms, move through the second rank in the same manner, then the third rank if there is one. The drill commander will stand at attention behind the last person on the left facing the right. At this point the drill commander will say "Inspection complete, request permission to carry on Sir/MaĠam" The inspecting officer will conduct the inspection of the drill commander, when completed, the inspecting officer will say "Carry-on". The drill commander will say "Yes Sir/Madam", salute, right turn, then march to the front of their division and call the following orders. Close order march Stand at ease Stand easy Relax At this point the team can bend their knees and relax until the second part of the competition, the teams must remain quiet while the other inspections are going on. The team will wait to carry on with the drill portion of the competition. PART II - DRILL The reviewing officer (usually the Provincial Commissioner or other delegate) will stand on the dias and say "(division #) drill commander". The drill commander will come to attention and say "Sir/Madam" then march up and halt two paces in front of the dias. The drill commander will salute and take one pace forward. The drill commander will then say "(division #) reporting, request permission to carry on will drill routine Sir/Madam" The reviewing officer will say "Carry on". The drill commander will say "Yes Sir/Madam" salute, right turn, march around in a half circle, and halt at the left side of the dias. Drill commander will perform an about turn and carry on with the drill routine. Drill commander will perform an about turn (facing the dias) and call the following orders. (Division#) will advance in review order, by the center quick march. General Salute, Salute (only drill commander will salute). Stand at Ease Stand Easy When told to carry on the drill commander will call the following orders Attention Dismissed The division will carry out a proper dismissed and move back to their position at the back of the parade square.
