Tips about Send To

Under your profile directory is a directory called SendTo.  The location of that directory depends on your operating system.  Under Windows 2000 (which we enthusiastically recommend), it is

[system drive letter]:\Documents and Settings\[account name]\SendTo.

Under other Windows systems, it is

[system directory]\Profiles\[account name]\SendTo.

In it, you can put shortcuts to executable files.

When you right-click a file or directory in a file manager, a menu pops up that includes the submenu “Send To”.  That submenu lists the shortcuts in the above-described SendTo directory.  Subdirectories in the SendTo directory show up as submenus of the “Send To” menu (except that the Norton File Manager doesn’t recognize subdirectories of the SendTo directory).

When you choose a “Send To” entry, the file manager starts the target file of the entry, with the entire pathname of the selected file or directory as a command-line argument.

A “Send To” target can be any file that takes a file or directory as a command-line argument.  Since your Start menu is made of shortcuts, if you have a directory (submenu) in the Start menu that contains shortcuts to editors, you can copy that entire directory into your SendTo directory.  Then, you can choose a file, and choose the editor with which to open it, all from your file manager.

Here is something you might like to try:
Put a shortcut to a file manager (or a directory full of such shortcuts) in your SendTo directory.  Then, send a directory to a file manager.
