Background: C'or doesn't talk about why he showed up in Cormanthor one day about 30 years ago. He doesn't discuss why it was he decided that his calling was arcane magic. It is assumed by the elves of the community of Tangled Trees that since dwarves do not really have wizards who can take on apprentices, C'or must have decided to go to some place where such master could be found.

There was no end of laughing and composing of amusing songs for many year in that part of the forest. Every season, C'or would ascend into the elven city and petition the Wizard's Council for the opportunity to learn elven magic. Every year he was politely refused, after which he returned to his small hut in the forest to wait with typical dwarven stubborness for the next opportunity.

The world changed. The Retreat saw the elves leave the lands of Faerun in great numbers, and the few that remained in Cormanthor gathered in communities like Tangled Trees to protect those parts of the forest they still could. Most of the elders of the Wizard's Council left for their Calling. Many of those training to be wizards left, and few have returned.

A few years ago there was a season when no elves petitioned to be apprentices in the ways of elven magic. The Wizard's Council, younger and more open to the realities of their situation, surpised all of the forest by accepting C'or as an apprentice to an elven wizard.
