Board seeks name for "new" Deep River school

Name that school!

Public input is being sought by the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB) for a name for the new Junior Kindergarten-Grade 12 facility being built at the current site of Mackenzie High School.

When it opens for business next September, the school will house all the public elementary and secondary students from Deep River, Laurentian Hills and Head, Clara and Maria.

An advisory committee has been set up by the school board to come up with a name for the school and is seeking both online and written submissions.

The submissions must include a reason, preferably not more than one page in length, supporting each name choice, with the proviso that every choice must reflect the mission statement, vision and values of the RCDSB.

The online name survey and supporting documents can be found at www.renfrew.edu.on.ca/schoolname.

Hard copies of the same documents can be picked up at the Chalk River, Deep River and Point Alexander public libraries, as well as at the Deep River town hall.

Once completed, they can be dropped off at Morison School, Mackenzie, or at the three afore-mentioned libraries.

The survey is open to community members at large, as well as students and staff at Keys, Mackenzie and Morison.

The advisory committee will review all the submissions, then shortlist three names and submit a recommendation to school board trustees, along with its rationale.
