The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Each year, the NRT invites students from our local schools to send in poems, stories and artwork to share in our Christmas greetings issue. The following is a selection of the written work we received, on the theme this year "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year."

Santa's here

Neigh, Neigh say hooray,
Santa's coming on his sleigh,
Here the pitter patter on the roof,
And the slip of rudolfs hoof,
Santa's here and this is proof.
Down the chimney,
And to the tree,
Santa Claus is filled with glee.
Have no fear,
Santa's here,
It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Eating Christmas Dinner

In the afternoon Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister and I were covering the table with food. There were chocolate chip cookies, turkey, cake, ginger bread houses, hot chocolate, ice cream, lots of ginger-bread men, tea, and chicken.

When we were finished covering the table, then I zoom to wash my hands. I zoomed frantically to the table to eat the cookies. That was the best dinner ever!

Have a Merry Christmas everybody. Ho Ho Ho.

Opening Presents!

The “Best” part
Of Christmas is...
Opening presents!
Sometimes they are
Shiny and sometimes
They are dull.
Sometimes they are
Big and sometimes
They are small.
But the “Best” part of
Christmas is being
Thankful for “All”!

Making Christmas Cookies

What type of cookies do you make? I sometimes make shortbread and chocolate chip. Yum! They are awesome!

When my friend Breanna comes over we have a tradition that we bake together. My mom sometimes helps us with the oven.
When they are ready, I zooooom to the kitchen. After that we have to wait till they cool down. We have so much fun when we bake together.

Emma Olstad, Gr 4
St. Anthony's School

Making Cookies

Well, every year, Emma and I make cookies at Christmas time. When we do I zoom over there and say “So when are we going to bake?” “Soon” they say.

Then we go outside, and play in the snow. We sometimes have a snowball fight, then we go inside to bake. That's what makes a wonderful time of the year.

Breanna James, Gr 4
St. Anthony's School

Opening and playing with presents

We need to put cookies and milk out for Santa. We need to put up the Christmas tree and decorate it. Don't forget to wrap the presents.

The most wonderful time of the year is opening and playing with presents because you can see what you got for Christmas. Then you can sprint outside in your pj's to play with your toys.

Have a good Christmas everybody. Ho Ho Ho!! I love presents.

Brayden Kellow, Gr 3
St. Anthony's School

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

My favourite time of Christmas is opening presents. Every year at my nannys it's my family tradition to open presents before Santa comes at night. The people who come are my hole family. Usually every one gets around 7 presents.

Christmas is not only about presents it's about Jesus' Birthday. Some people think its all about presents.

Anna Switzer, Gr 3
St. Anthony's School

Opening and Playing with Presents!

The most wonderful
Time of the year is...
Opening
And playing with presents!
We slip and slide
Out of our bed.
Then we realize
There is lead.

Just kidding!

We jump so high
That we fly
Then come down
To earth
And open fantastic presents!

Jessica Konkle, Gr 4

Snowmobiling with My Poppa

My poppa, brother, I and sometimes my uncle go snowmobiling with each other every year. Josh and I are on the back but we still have fun.

We usually go past Deep River on trails to Rolphton and eat at the motel. The food is delicious there.

After we eat, we leap on the snowmobiles and bolt back to my poppa's. Then we have some hot chocolate with mini marshmallows!

After that Josh and I would go home and for me that's the most wonderful time of the year!

Giving to Others

To me the wonderful time of the year is giving. You'll feel fantastic inside when you see your friends smile.

This time of the year is to be shared with people in your family or even friends.

Christmas is here, let's have fun and share! Merry Christmas everyone!

The Most Wonderful time of year

As the month goes by Christmas gets closer! Which mean money gets out of wallets to buy gifts for kids like toys!

Every year I get out of bed early to see my stocking but I have to be very quit because if I wake up my older sister Amanda she will yell at me for looking at my stocking.

If I want my mom and dad lazy butt out of bed I have to make them a coffee. When I am done make coffee we go down stairs to open presents.

After that we go ski-dooing with are friends in the woods. We roast marshmallows and hot dogs maybe even, hot chocolate.

Then we come back and have a big breakfast. Then we play with are toys. After that we cook a big Christmas Dinner with turkey, potatoes and vegetables and Hollandaise sauce. “Yum.”

After that is time to pack for Kingston. That's where my grandparents live. That's the best thing about Christmas!

Making Christmas Cookies

When my family is getting ready for Christmas we always make Christmas cookies for our family. When my dad, my brother and I are done decorating the Christmas tree, we put up our Santa Claus blow up.

My brother Logan helps with making Christmas cookies. First we put flour in, next we add 2 cups of sugar, we crack 2 eggs and wait 1 hour.

Once they are done we test one cookie to see if it tastes good. They always taste so good that we share them with our family.

Mckenna Cousineau, Gr 4
St. Anthony's School

The Best Christmas Ever

We slide down our Christmas tree.
We find that there are
presents, and we shout with glee.
For Santa has eaten the cookies.
Some of the presents were big
and some of them were small.
We are grateful for what we got.
But the best time of Christmas
is spending time with your family.

On Christmas day last year

On Christmas morning there were lots of presents, my sister and mom woke up. First, I opened my presents, then I made the cookies, next I played with my new toys. After that I watched TV. My favourite toy I got for Christmas was my for real friend. I wonder what I will get for next Christmas.

My Christmas of 2009

Last Christmas my grandparents came to my house to celebrate Christmas with my family and me! First I woke up and watched TV until my parents and grandparents came to us. Then I dumped my stocking in the living room. Next I went to the computer room to open up presents. I got a new bike! After that my grandpa gave me a knife that is engraved. That is my special knife because my grandpa gave it to me!

The Fun Times of Christmas

Last Christmas, me, my mum, my dad, my brother, and our special guest hamster Peaches were at my house for Christmas. On Christmas Eve we got everything ready for Santa to deliver the presents. First, we put up the stockings. I even put up one for Peaches. Second thing we did was put a snack out for Santa and his reindeer. For Santa we put out cookies and milk and for the reindeer we put out carrots. For a special treat I put an orange in Peaches's stocking. On Christmas Day I woke up and had my breakfast. Lastly, I opened my presents.

What a wonderful Christmas!

Christmas time

One morning in 2009 I woke up and looked under the tree in my room at my house. After that my mom and dad and sister woke up. It was Christmas morning!

Now I went to my mom and dad's room with the presents that were under the tree in my room to show my parents them. Then I put the presents back in my room. After that I asked if we could open the presents under the big tree, my mom said, “In ten minutes”.... Now it was time to open the presents under the big tree. I got lots of lego. Christmas was the best day of the year!

My Excellent Christmas

Last year early Christmas morning at my house my sister and I woke up. First I ran down stairs and saw a huge present for me. Then I ran up stairs to go wake up my mom and I asked “Can I open a present?” And she said, yes, so I ran down stairs and I opened my present. It was a GT snow racer.

I was relieved. I had wanted it for 2 years and I finally got it!

Santa's Christmas City

On the day before Christmas Alison found a note from her Aunt Jill; she unfolded it and read it.

“Dear Alison, The best of the season good cheer. Meet me at Santa's Christmas City; there is a magic cab waiting for you outside.”

She put on her coat and went outside and she went inside the cab. The driver was a short little man who had to stand on the seat to see out the window. He handed her a note, but before she could read it the cab lifted up off the ground and it flew her to Santa's Christmas City.

When they landed she remembered the note crumpled in her hand. She moved it and read it.

“Find me and I will count all the minutes till you are at my side. Go in to Santa's Christmas City; here it is Christmas all year.”

Alison went into Santa's Christmas City. She saw a note in a snow bank so she pulled it out and read it.

“To see Santa's work go by the grand palace, turn right, then you will be there. See all the elves working for Santa to make toys.”

Alison saw the grand palace so she went by it and turned right and went into a building with a sign that said “Santa's Christmas work shop” so that should be it. When she went in she blended in because she was wearing a Santa hat, a green dress, red leggings, and green shoes.

While she was there she saw all kinds of toys being made. She also saw a place were they were selling toys. She had to buy a present for Aunt Jill. So she went there and a elf handed her a note.

“The perfect present for me: it has lots of pages and it's a book.”

So Alison bought the book and there was a note; she read it.

“To find me go to the front of the grand palace. I have a book for you.”

Alison went to the front of the grand palace and went to her Aunt Jill and got the special book for her. She hugged her Aunt Jill and they both said “Merry Christmas.”

Christmas Church

On Saturday, November 19, 2010 Miss Melissa, my mom and I went to the church to decorate the church. First I decorated the garland that my mom put me in charge of. After that I put the window stickers on windows.
Then me and Miss Melissa decorated the trees and my mom hung up the wreaths and said the trees looked great.

I love decorating for Christmas.

Winter

Snowflakes fall softly down
like a blanket on the ground.
Animals hide under ground.
Christmas shines all year round.
Merry Christmas to all around.

Last Christmas Day

Last Christmas, I didn't go any where and that was my dads fault because he didn't book a hotel so we stayed home on Wylie Road. When Christmas day came, I opened presents and got a flame snow board and white and black goalie pads.

After I opened my presents, I went to a steep hill. Next, I went home and got some steaming hot chocolate. I felt great, dizzy, and awesome.

On Christmas Day!

On Christmas day my family and I open our presents. First we eat breakfast. We only open 1 at a time. Last year when we woke up on Christmas day we were really excited; we went down stairs to have breakfast. After we were done we counted all of the presents, but after that we had to wait until my step dad came home from work.

Finally when he came home we had to eat first then finally we could open our presents at the end of the day. But was so happy that finally we got to open our presents. I felt really happy.

The Most Wonderful time in Christmas City

In Christmas city, Santa's house is filled with toys every day of the year. But tomorrow is the most wonderful day of the year... Christmas! Santa, his elves and Christmas puppy have been working hard to prepare the gifts.

Tonight is Santa's big night, he has to deliver presents all over the world! The elves are singing a happy tune, while wraping presents. Suddenly Christmas puppy rushed in.

“Santa, the reindeer are ready, and everyone is waiting... it's Christmas eve!”

Ding Dong, Santa's clock was ringing. Time to go! Off through the night flew Santa, across the world delivering presents. He was shivering with excitement, as he landed on a roof top. He climbed down the chimney, and heard a voice say: “Is that you Santa?”

The voice sounds like a little girl, thought Santa. I must get out of here quickly and come back when she is asleep. But when he tried to get up the chimney, his coat got caught on the stocking hanger. “Oh no!” cried Santa.

“Santa is that you?” The little girl peeked around the corner. “Santa it is you, don't worry I will save you!” She untangled his coat and he was free!

“Thank You!” boomed Santa. “Here are your gifts, good night!”

“Santa,” said the little girl. “This is the most wonderful time of year!”

The year with no Santa

Once upon a time in the north pole Santa said “I need a vacation” to his elves, “but who will give the children toys?” asked an elf.

“A substitute” said Santa. “We will have a substitute.” “But who will it be?” said the elves.

So the elves set off to find a new Santa. They they found a little girl saving a little puppy. So they said “Would you like to be Santa?” and she said “OK.” So on the way back she saw the moon, stars, and much more!

When she got there, Santa was happy, the elves but mostly the little girl! Happy Christmas readers!

Santa's Problem

One Christmas eve it is a dark stormy night in Canada. Santa was going around putting presents under the Christmas trees.

Then Santa came to a house but the children were still awake. Oh no! How will Santa get in there and put the presents under the Christmas tree without the kid seeing him? The kids were waiting to see Santa.

So Santa thought for a long time then he said “I got it! I will go to all the other houses and when I'm finished I will come here because they will be asleep!” And so Santa tricked the kids again.

Christmas

Ooo Boy! I was excited! When I woke up I shot out of bed yelling “Christmas! Christmas! Today is Christmas!” Waking every body up in a most unpleasant way, I ran down the hallway with Audrey and Max close behind. We took turns to take something out of our stockings.
Next Audrey, Max, Dad, Mum, and I into the livingroom to open the presents! Before we got to open any my grandma came with a whole lot of presents. There was even one from Fizz my grandma's dog, to Titou my cat!

We opened all of them together. My favourite present was the Wii! It was for our whole family.

My Best Christmas Ever!

Two Christmases ago, me and my mom went all the way from Deep River to Pembroke to get my new dog. I was so excited that I kept asking my mom when we were going to be there. Finally, we were there.

The dog and the dog seller were waiting in the cold snow for us to pick up the dog. The dog seller showed us the food that the dog ate. My mom did not like the name of the dog so she called it Lola.

On the way home Lola sat on my lap for the whole ride. When we got home I took a picture of my new dog. She was so cute. This was the best Christmas ever!

Snowman Making

During last Christmas holidays me and my mom made a snowman in my front lawn. Me and my mom made a big snow ball. After that we made a medium size snow ball and put it on the top. Then we made a small snow ball and put it on the very top.

When we were done rolling the snowballs we got a carrot for a nose. I was having a great time. After we got a carrot for a nose me and my mom got pinecones for buttons and a mouth. At first the pinecones didn't stick to the snowman but then we got them to stick.

My mom didn't have a top hat so we used a witches hat instead. The snowman looked funny. I can't wait until next year so I can make another snowman.
