Hospital ER earns top
rating
The rest of the province is now
able to know what local people have known for a long time – that the
levels of patient satisfaction and service at the Deep River and
District Hospital’s Emergency Department are in the top four in the
province.
March 1 saw the release of patient satisfaction and hospital
performance data on a new consumer-oriented website developed by the
Ontario Hospital Association.
Myhospitalcare.ca allows anyone in the province to access on-line
patient satisfaction data and a range of performance measures for the
majority of Ontario’s hospitals.
“Our emergency department was ranked fourth out of 99 provincial
Hospitals on three separate rating scales: overall number of positive
patient response ratings; level of emotional support in delivery of
care; and the level of information and education provided to patients,”
said hospital CEO Larry Schruder.
“This speaks volumes about the ability of our staff to live and
practice our vision statement – Every client’s healthcare experience
will be exceptional.”
Chief Nursing Officer Lianne Wheeler added her congratulations to all
staff.
“We have exceptional staff who go out of their way to provide the best
possible care to their neighbours and friends – and it goes far beyond
the emergency department nurses and physicians.
“Most of our staff, from reception through to lab, DI (diagnostic
imaging), housekeeping and dietary are part of our patient care team.
“This is their day to stand in the sunshine and enjoy the recognition.
We are all very proud of them.”
Schruder was also quick to note that the other three provincial
hospitals scoring better than Deep River run emergency departments with
approximately 60 per cent of the patient volumes of DRDH.
“For the size of our hospital and the size of our staff, caring for
more than 17,000 patients a year and achieving ratings like this is
simply amazing.
“We know that our reputation is making us even busier, and this is
posing challenges for both ourselves and our patients.
“But I remain very proud of the performance of this hospital on these
provincial ratings.”
