Cobden teen wins
third triathlon
More than 120 athletes and
“wannabes” hit the waters of the Ottawa and the streets of Deep River
early Sunday morning as the town hosted its 28th annual Deep River
Triathlon.
It was a return for the event after a one-year break due to
construction work in town last summer.
But after a one-year break, there was no change at the very top of the
leader board, as Cobden's Tristan Woodfine, 18, won his third straight
Deep River triathlon.
Pembroke's Tony Biernacki, 46, finished second to Woodfine for the
second time.
Under near perfect conditions, both men improved their 2009 times, with
Woodfine completing the event's 1 km swim, 30 km bike and 8 km run in a
time of 1:23:59, 10 minutes faster than two years ago.
Biernacki completed the course in a time of 1:30:42.6, 12 minutes
better than his 2009 time.
Chris Inch was the top Deep River finisher, coming in third overall in
a time of 1:32:37.7.
Tim Rhodes, Mike Beale and Fabrice Guerout also had top 10 times, all
in the 1:37 bracket.
Kristen Bridges of Pembroke was the top woman to finish the 2011
triathlon, coming in seventh overall in a time of 1:37:05.2.
“Minutes to Spare” was the top local team. Yubo Qui, Todd Yourth and
Colin Rhodes combined to conquer the swim, bike and run in a time of
1:34:59.3.
