Man dies in motorcycle crash

A 55-year-old Chelmsford, Ontario man died last week after he apparently lost control of his motorcycle just west of Rolphton.

The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the OPP say police were called to the scene of a single motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Highway 17, near Colton Creek Road, at about 9 pm last Thursday, August 4.

Police say Yvon Briere was travelling east when he appeared to have lost control of his motorcycle after overtaking a motor vehicle.

The motorcycle came to rest in the ditch. Briere was transported to the Deep River & District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Laurentian Hills fire department and technical collision investigators from the OPP Ottawa Traffic detachment.

Highway 17 was reduced to one lane of traffic for approximately eight hours.

Provincial Constable Cam Ducharme is the investigating officer.
