Trial dates to be set?

Trial dates may be set later this month for the Parry Sound man charged with first degree murder in the death of a 27-year-old Deep River woman.

John Craig Cameron, 52, made a brief appearance in Pembroke court last week.

Cameron has been in custody since turning himself in to Parry Sound OPP on March 15.

Cameron is charged in connection with the death of Michelle Cameron, his daughter-in-law.

Michelle Cameron's body was found in her home at 1 Claremount Rd following a 911 call to police.

Cameron's defence counsel asked the court for a further adjournment of the case while the defence team reviews an assessment report on Cameron from the Royal Ottawa Hospital.

Crown attorney Tim McCann said he understood the need for time to review the report.

But McCann said the Crown is “getting to the point we would want to see some action” on setting dates for Cameron's trial.

Justice Robert Selkirk agreed, setting the date for Cameron's next appearance for Tuesday, September 27 at 11 am.

Cameron's case is covered by a publication ban under section 517 of the Criminal Code.

Section 517 prevents the publication of any evidence, arguments or reasons presented why an accused should not be freed on bail pending his or her trial.

The publication ban also includes the contents of the assessment report from the Royal Ottawa.
