Council creates new
committees
by Vance Gutzman
Deep River council members may not be standing on ceremony, but they
will have standing committees.
Council has approved a recommendation from its striking committee that
establishes five standing committees to the council structure.
The five standing committees are finance and administration, public
works, development and planning, recreation, and protection of people
and property.
Each committee will have a chair and vice-chair and each member of
council is an ex-officio member of each committee - welcome to attend
as full participants.
Council will also solicit one community member for each standing
committee, following the upcoming November by-elections.
In addition to the two regular council meetings the town holds each
month, each standing committee will also meet monthly.
"It will result in a more comprehensive system," said Deputy Mayor
Daniel Banks, noting that the standing committee structure will allow
for more detailed analysis of issues facing the town.
The standing committee structure adopted by the town is similar to the
one employed by the County of Renfrew.
Laurentian Hills also has a standing committee structure, though all
five of its committees meet at the same time, once a month, to discuss
issues and make recommendations to council.
