Mustangs to host
football semifinal
For the first time in 25 years,
local football fans will be able to see the Mackenzie Mustangs host a
high school football playoff game on their home field next week.
The Mustangs wrapped up second place in the Renfrew County division of
the Renfrew-Lanark high school football league this year with a 10-0
win on the road over Renfrew Collegiate Institute last Friday afternoon.
The Mustangs tied RCI at home at the end of September, giving them the
edge in the head to head matchup.
The powerful Arnprior Redmen are undefeated and lead the standings in
the county, while the Mustangs hold down second place ahead of Renfrew
and Fellowes.
Mackenzie will close out its regular season with a final home game this
Thursday, October 27 at 2 pm against Fellowes, before hosting RCI next
Tuesday, November 1 in the county semifinal. (Thursday's game was
originally scheduled for Friday afternoon.)
Mustangs coach Charles Sims says it will be the first time Mackenzie
has hosted a playoff football game since 1986.
Game time for Tuesday's semifinal is tentatively set for 2 pm, but may
be subject to change depending on the availability of the game
officials.
