Council backs marina
plan
by Vance Gutzman
Deep River town council has endorsed a resolution from its recreation
committee which it hopes will put wind in the sails of plans to revamp
the marina.
As was reported in the NRT earlier this month, Morris Thuemen
Architects have, at the town's request, drawn up ambitious plans for a
re-design of the marina.
The design includes a new marina attendant's hut, conjoining patio and
a boardwalk leading to the yacht club.
Those plans came with an estimated price of $285,000, and council's
resolution took that into account, approving the project in principle,
pending further clarification of specific plans, costs and other
approvals.
"This resolution enables those details to be worked out," Deputy Mayor
Daniel Banks said.
"This sets the foundation for those things to be able to happen."
In the same resolution, council also appointed Phil Simpson, of the
Marina Users Group, to be the project manager for its marina
improvement plan.
"I trust his judgement and I trust his managerial skills," Mayor David
Thompson said of Simpson's appointment.
