In 1879, Mary Baker Eddy founded The
Church of Christ, Scientist "to commemorate the word
and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive
Christianity and its lost element of healing. (Church Manual)"
First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Ottawa, like all Christian
Science churches around the world, is a branch of The Mother
Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts. Every branch church has its own distinct democratic
government. An Executive Board is elected from the membership,
and committees are appointed to carry out the activities of
the church.
