Hazardous Waste Industry Support
Heritage Research Associates Inc. offers secure site specific
archival documentation in support of environmental waste research.
We are a value added service -- one that pays off when defining
new areas, when attempting to grasp a complex problem based in
the past, or when working in an area with extensive legal implications.
We provide a level of security that interviews with the old boys
and aerial photo analysis just can't match.
We can inventory pre 1950 problem sites because we know where
to find (and how to use) historical data. We begin with contemporary
inventories -- and our evidence far exceeds the material that
was graphically illustrated. We can also supplement our findings
with archival information to gauge the dimension and nature of
an early waste problem quickly.
We have techniques for cost-effectively preparing site histories
from documentary sources. This provides a reliable base for the
investigation of early sites -- because it uses past methods
of comprehensive reporting. This removes the "hit and miss"
aspect of site investigation -- restricting it to securely definable
boundaries. Competent documentary review is the only way to ensure
"the best available evidence" has been consulted on
a pre 1950 waste site.
Our expertise in the past provides perspective as well as security.
We know how to assess the relevance of a particular file in a
whole network of documentation. We are familiar with past contexts
-- and will find useful material in places you would never think
to look. We are conversant earlier generations of material use
and technological understanding. We know how to flesh out fragmentary
data so that past information is as clear as evidence collected
today.
Canada has been fortunate that generations of well-trained, conscientious
engineers and administrators have left excellent records. Our
past -- particularly our land use, government and engineering
related activities -- can be documented with a security that
is not available in many other countries. Is it responsible to
ignore this evidence in an extensive waste investigation?
Who uses our service?
Engineering and geotechnical firms engaged in complex waste research.
Our services are particularly useful when understanding the nature
of a problem with past roots is critical to providing secure
and effective solution.
