Workshops
The following is
a list of media and techniques that I have used in my professional career
as an artist and art teacher. I am capable of giving lectures, demonstrations,
workshops, and classes in any and all of these media and/or specific techniques.
I can adapt my teaching methods to the level of the students involved whether
they are just looking for an introductory overview or an in-depth understanding
of a particular medium.

Monoprint and Monotype
1. Monoprint and Monotype
I have presented a number of monoprint workshops using traditional, additive and subtractive methods, a unique form of monoprints using Caran d’ache and techniques using magazine solvent transfers.

Relief Prints: linocut and woodcut
2. Relief Prints: linocut and woodcut
I have given workshops in relief printing covering all aspects of the medium: image transfer and development, block cutting tools and techniques, basic printing techniques (using both oil-based & water-based inks) and various colour printing techniques (e.g. Jig-saw, multi-plate & stencil methods)up
I have taught several courses covering the basic elements of engraving including: plate preparation (copper, zinc & soft steel), image transfer techniques and development, line and tone engraving using engraving and mezzotint tools, printing press and printing techniques, and printing editions and unique prints.up
Etching is a complex medium but can be successfully demonstrated in a short time period. Workshops and courses touch on a full range of technical areas including plate preparation, image transfer techniques, safe use of grounds and acids, etching tools, line & tone engraving (aquatint), and basic printing. Specialized workshops can be given to advanced students in special processes such as spit-biting, photo-etching, photocopy transfers, colour printing techniques and hand-colouring.up
Lithography is the most versatile and most complex printmaking technique. It involves planographic printing on litho stones and plates. This technique can be successfully demonstrated in a short period of time. For workshop purposes it is best suited to a long workshop situation. Material covered in a workshop include stone graining and preparation, basic drawing materials, image transfer and development, chemistry and processing of the lithographic image, basic printing techniques and specialized techniques.up
Papermaking is a "new" medium being used by more and more artists as a medium in and of itself. The basic techniques of papermaking can be demonstrated in a short period of time or presented in a short worksop situation, but it is better to present this workshop in a long workshop setting. Topics covered in a workshop include the history of paper, basic materials, basic equipment, fibres and materials, preparation of pulp, sheet-forming, pressing and drying, watermarks, formation techniques such as inclusion and collage, dyeing pulp, pulp "painting", and using paper as a sculpture medium.up
