Ottawa: A portrait in architecture and history

[version française]

Part of the Patrick Dumais Photo website

Welcome to this portrait of Ottawa. Ottawa's history predates its establishment as the capital of Canada, but it is undeniable that this designation, brought by a young Queen Victoria in 1858, gave a very signifant boost to its development. Indeed, Barracks Hill, the choicest spot of real estate of the city wisely set aside from development by Colonel By, became soon thereafter Parliament Hill and received the construction of the East, West and Centre Blocks that are the most recognisable (and photographed) features of the city.
