Transportation building, Ottawa
The Transportation building was built by C. Jackson Booth.
This remarkable building with gothic frieze housed City Hall after the previous Hall was gutted
by fire in 1931. The Depression and the Second World War delayed the construction of a new
City Hall, and there it remained for twenty-seven years
until the Hall on Green island was built. Nowadays City Hall has returned close to the spot
of the Hall of 1877-1931, south of Confederation Park on Elgin Street.
