Fanfare Regatta - September 13, 14 Nepean Sailing Club

Six boats from the local fleet participated in the Fanfare regatta at Nepean Sailing Club. Saturday's conditions were overcast skies with a 12 knot westerly breeze blowing down the river making for great sailing. Five 40 minute races were held Saturday, on a course shared with Albacores, 5o5s, Lasers, and cats. Everyone felt like they'd had a workout by the end of the day. Ian Maclaren, with the help of 200 pounds of BC-import on the wire (Jeremy Smith), showed good speed all day winning all but one of the races. Racing was close - two of Ian's wins were by less than a boat length.

Sunday was bright and sunny - a nice day to go sailing, but unfortunately the wind was down from the day before. The first two races were held in about 5 knots of breeze. This died down even more for the (shortened) third race. Ian Maclaren won all races Sunday, but each one was again closely contested.

It was nice having all the local boats together for a regatta, and the close racing showed that most of the fleet has similar boat speed. We're looking forward to more great racing next season.
