12- 15 knots, gusting to 22
Phil & Antica's extended capsize / swan dive into the mast / turtling/ bottom-testing on the way out to the race course was a forecast of things to come at this year's Fanfare regatta. Seven Fireballs competed in the regatta, all from local clubs. Eight short races were held using a collegiate course format (start&finish half way up the beat; start/beat/reach-gybe-reach/round the start pin/run/ round the leeward mark/ beat to finish). For only 7 boats there was a lot of carnage seen for the day - Ian Maclaren broke his tiller extension after missing his hiking straps and doing a back-flip out of the boat; Jeremy Kennedy, after showing great speed all day, ripped the gudgeons out of his transom; Andy Carran somehow broke his crew; and the highlight of the day was Mike McEvoy holing his starboard tank after a collision with John Bryant. It was decided to call it a day when the fleet was down to 2 able bodied boats (both owned by the Locker's I must add!). It was great fun while it lasted, with the racing being very close throughout the day.
