The gray skies and cool air temperatures made for a very chilly regatta, especially noticable during any delays between races. Racing began on Saturday in marginal trapezing conditions, and built slowly throughout the day. Derek was helming for class newcomer Nicola in the purple boat she purchased from him last fall. Dave & Mona were clearly the ones to beat in these conditions, and took bullets in all three races held Saturday. By the 3rd race the cold was affecting everyone's sailing ability. Fortunately no Fireballers went swimming, although a few Laser II teams were seen to take the plunge, and Paul briefly tested the waters at one mark rounding but recovered before a full capsize.
During Saturday's 3rd race the Lockers were in 2nd position following the 1st beat, when they briefly followed the Laser IIs onto the reach rather than beginning the run. Derek and Paul both took advantage of this mistake, and with the Lockers finding themselves the final Fireball at the leeward mark (with the wind piping up) they decided to take that as their drop race and headed for the warmth of the clubhouse. Unfortunately the wind failed to show up on Sunday, with only one shortened race being run in very light air, and the second race being abandoned at the start with no wind and rain beginning to fall. With only 4 races run over the weekend no drops were given.
