Background
The French Polish on the Carleton House Desk was completely bleached out and
cracked due to being left in direct sunlight for many years. The leather was
also affected badly by the sun. Marquetry was missing from all over and plenty
more needed to be laid down. The door on the
left was split and had also warped slightly. The top where the mahogany is
steam bent had shrunk back and split on both sides. The joints however
were in great shape and needed very little re- gluing. Unfortunately we do
not have any pictures of the desk before being restored.
The Process

We replaced all the missing marquetry and laid down all the lifted
marquetry. We repaired all the splits and fixed the warped door. The
desk was stripped and French Polished. And finally we replaced the
leather.
