The Ballet Centre's Committees

Management Committee

• Maintains contacts with resource persons and assists The Ballet Centre staff in a number of administrative projects
• Participates in decision-making concerning the 'special programme' and the scholarship programme
• Helps formulate marketing strategies.

Friends Committee

• Increases public awareness of The Ballet Centre and enlarges the audience that attends performances
• Helps in promoting understanding of the important links between basic training in the discipline and techniques of classical ballet and the enhancement of the quality of presentation of Jamaican culture through the dance
• Assists in gaining improved support for The Ballet Centre's operations.

   

Scholarship Committee

• Acts as a support group for scholarship winners
• Identifies and helps provide dance apparel for scholarship winners who need help with purchasing their own
• Works closely with parents and children on various dance-related matters that may arise (e.g., discipline, attendance, punctuality).

Profiles of some Committee and Board Members (alphabetical order)

Shelley Glaze

Shelley is a graduate of The University of The West Indies where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science. She is married with three (3) daughters who all study classical dance at The Ballet Centre. Currently she teaches Biology at Wolmer's High School for Girls.

Peter M. Glaze

Peter received his MSc. In Periodontology at The University of London Royal Dental Hospital and School. He has worked with the Part-time National Health Service Practice, Woburn Sands England. He has also worked as a part time dental officer at The Kingston Public Hospital. He has published in the journal of Clinical Periodontology "Tooth-brush age and wear as it relates to plaque control". Currently he runs his own Periodontal Practice. Peter is married with three daughters.

Jacqueline Hibbert

Jacqueline completed all Royal Academy of Dance children's examinations up to grade 5. She was a teacher's assistant for a Ballroom Dance Class at Virginia Commonwealth University for three years and has also assisted with some teaching at The Ballet Centre. Jacqueline is currently an Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, Medical College of Virginia (MCV) and an Affiliate Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, School of Medicine, (MCV).

Janet Sharp

Janet studied classical ballet from ages 5 to 14. She received her Masters in Actuarial Science in 1988 from Georgia State University, U.W.S.A. A. She is currently the Assistant Vice President, Actuarial at Island Life Insurance Company Ltd., Kingston, Jamaica.

Cathy Williams

Cathy is a graduate of The University of Tennessee, U. S. A., where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Business Administration. She is also a former athlete and has represented Jamaica in Athletics at four (4) Olympic Games. Cathy is married with two children and teaches Spanish At S.S. Peter & Paul Preparatory School.
