The last example is a beautiful passage from Verdi's Requiem. I'm sorry to say that the MIDI rendition
does not justice to this music, and I urge to hear a proper performance with full orchestra and choir.
Verdi, Requiem
The technique of tying the third over so that it becomes the seventh of the next chord is used here, but this
is enhanced with other rhythmic variations.
The motion of the roots of the chords appears clearly in the bass, but an uneven amount of time is spent on
successive chords, with chord changes occurring on the second and third beats of each measure. Also, in
addition to the suspended third the resolution of the fifth of every second chord is delayed. The result is a
cascade of dissonance resolutions which creates a uniquely beautiful passage.
