The Camp Petit Poisson Blanc is a sprawling
200 acre retreat built by the University of Ottawa in the 1980's, which is located on a
Peninsula directly on Lac Heney - a 15 kilometer lake in the heart of the Gatineau Valley.
The splendor of the surrounding forest creates its atmosphere of relaxation and comfort. Each of 14 furnished lodging cabins is near the water's edge and is equipped with its own private washroom facilities. There also is a 10-room motel where the washrooms and showers are shared. The camp has the capacity to accommodate 100 campers. |
| Three meeting rooms on the campsite can accommodate groups of 40
to 100 in comfort, and an Olympic size gymnasium is available for volleyball, basketball,
badminton or other activities involving large groups and a requirement for room to play. As might be expected, the facilities for aquatic sports and activities are extensive. The Camp offers many canoes - some in fibreglass and others, for the purist, in cedar - and there are several Type 420 sailboats, windsurfing boards, as well as outboard motorboats or simple rowboats. Swimming at the beach is supervised, and safety equipments are available. |
| For those with an interest for testing their physical abilities, a nature track with obstacles, run through the forest. This obstacle course which is two miles long, offers about 20 challenges with an elevation factor of about 20 feet. |
|
| The cafeteria can accommodate 85 people. Every meal is
complete with soup/salad, juice, vegetable, meat, desert, tea, coffee or milk and if you
still are hungry, you are welcome to help yourself for a second helping. Adjacent to the
cafeteria there is a lounge open to all guests. You can play table tennis, listen to
the music, read a book or just relax. The environment lends itself to different activities related to ecology, for example, plant identification, orientation, bird identification and so on. There is always something to do whenever you want to. There is a large variety of games and activities to please everyone. Athletic sports, cooperative and quiet games such as volleyball, badminton, baseball, fishing, swimming, horseshoe, and so on. To enhance the nocturnal activities, campfire and celebration are on the schedule. Obviously, Camp Petit Poisson Blanc is more than suitable for recreational sports or for group training, in addition to its attractiveness for those who just want to relax. |
