Shell Tank Farm
|
The Shell Oil Terminal was not present in Little Current in 1930, but was added to the terminals complex at a later date. Shell's facility was by far the largest of the bulk plant in Little Current, easily four or five times the size of the Texaco and Gulf Terminals in 1976. This most likely reflected the fact that in the 1970's Shell was the major supplier of both fuels and lubricants to the E.B. Eddy Mill in Espanola, most of which were supplied out of Little Current.
South of the Little Current Swing Bridge, the line passes through a rock cut. The switch leading off to the Shell Terminal spur was located just to the south of this cut. In both photos on this page, the spur can be seen curving off to the southeast to reach the tank car loading platform.

Shell Loading Area and Warehouse
|
The upper photo shows part of the Shell tank farm which was located on the north side of the property. The rail car loading rack was just to the south of the farm. The lower photo shows the rail car loading rack to the left with the truck loading area, office and warehouse at the south end of the property. With the removal of the tracks in the early 1980s, the rail car loading racks were removed, however the remainder of the terminal still existed as of the summer of 1997.
