Mileate siding was originally named Hilltop Siding. Sometime in
the early history of the railway is was renamed Mileate Siding, presumably
because it was almost centred on Mile 8.
In 1930, the siding was 949 feet long on the north side of the main
line. 173.5 feet was laid with 85 lb rail, the rest was 80 lb rail.
The siding was reached by two #9 spring turnouts. Interestingly enough
the switch stands were of two different types, one being a high stand,
the other a low stand. The entire siding was laid out on a 3 degree
curve, one of almost a continuous series of curves at this point.
