Espanola — March 02, 1999
The Algoma Eastern Railway Heritage Group today announced the publication
of a new World Wide Web site featuring the Algoma Eastern Railway.
The web site describes the history of the railway, its current state and
takes the visitor on a virtual tour of the line. In addition information
concerning the AERHG and its activities are posted on the site.
The AERHG has been working on this particular project since early January
of this year. It is the opinion of the group’s executives that publishing
this web site not only preserves the small amount of historical information
now available on the AER but will help to generate interest in the project.
Says webmaster John Morgan, “This site is not just for the rail fan
or modeller, although there is a lot of information there that they would
be interested in. More importantly, it contains much of what we know
about the AER and will be of interest to amateur historians and anyone
interested in the history of Northern Ontario. We hope that individuals
cruising the web, when they surf into this site, will find enough to make
them want to join in the efforts of the AERHG to preserve what’s left of
the line.”
The AERHG has been working steadily since late December 1998 to generate
interest in getting a tourist train running on the unused track between
Espanola and Little Current.
