AER Sudbury - Ash Pit

Sudbury Yard Location
John Morgan (1997)
Former A.E.R. Sudbury yard site

The ash pit was located about 200 feet west of the water tank down the shop lead. The ash pit was a concrete structure 22.5 feet long. On the 1930 plan for Sudbury, there was no siding associated with the ash pit although there was room for one.  One can only conjecture that either the siding had been removed or cleaning the pit may have involved spotting a car on the adjacent number 2 yard siding and hand shovelling the ashes into it. There is no trace left of the ash pit today.
