Sudbury Water Tank Foundations

The first major structure on entering the Algoma Eastern's Sudbury yard was the frame 40,000 gallon water tank. The tank was located on the south side of the shop lead track just to the west of the east yard ladder. Although the exact date is unknown, the tank was probably torn down shortly after the take-over by the CPR.  The photo, taken during the seventies, shows the foundation of the tank in the foreground.  The AER main line, by then the CPR Nickel Subdivision runs from left to right in front of the car.  The photo was taken looking south east towards the CNR overpass.  By the late 1990s even these foundation remnants had disappeared.
