Accident involving Peter Morrin

Normally when there is an automobile accident involving fatalities, the event is well covered in the media, but since the damage may have initially appeared relatively minor to some, and since my father did not die immediately from his injuries, it was not mentioned in the news. I have heard that there is a lot of misinformation circulating about the accident in which my father was involved. To dispel that misinformation, I have prepared this short summary.

My father and a good friend had spent Friday, September 28th, fishing on Deline Lake, north of Sydenham, ON. They had just started their trip home when they collided with a pick-up truck headed in the opposite direction at around 7:15 p.m. Bedford Road is a winding, narrow back country road with many blind corners and blind rises; it is not difficult to imagine such an accident just after sunset. The impact severed my father's spinal cord. His friend, who was seated in the passenger seat, was also injured.

I have been told that the driver of the pick-up truck was uninjured, but I have been unable to confirm that. There is no indication that either driver had consumed any alcohol. I have not received a copy of the police report, but I do not expect it to provide much more relevant information than what we already know.

The message left at 8:03 pm by the OPP on my parents' answering machine mentioned a "minor traffic accident". My mother unfortunately didn't receive the message until a little later that evening.

My father died five days after the accident, on Wednesday evening, October 3rd, as a result of his injuries.
