Boracay
Island, the jewel of Philippine tourism, is fast becoming one of the
premier beach playgrounds of Asia. This surge in popularity is due to
the unique natural beauty of Boracay Island, which is now a marine
preserve, that is frequently voted to have the best beaches in the
world, combined with a multitude of inexpensive Boracay vacation past
times. In most Philippine vacation spots you are confined to your hotel
of choice - but not in Boracay! - which
offers a 4 k. long sandy promenade stretching the entire length of White
Beach with a continuous collection of inviting restaurants offering a
wide selection of different national cuisines including: Filipino
seafood, French, Japanese, Korean, Indian, Italian, Thai, etc., plus
trendy boutiques, craft shops, cozy beach bars, lively discos, sensuous
massage centers and water sports outlets. Most Boracay vacationers at
sunset are tempted to stroll the Boracay beach promenade, taking a
little refreshment and some souvenir photos of the magnificent Boracay
sunset along the way.
One
of the extra advantages of Boracay Island is the very reasonable prices
of food and beverages, for example a full breakfast is offered by most
restaurants for less than P 200 ($4), a 3 - 4 course meal for P 300 -
500 ($7 - 10) and the internationally acclaimed San Miguel beer cost
only P 40 ($0.75) - so dining on a Boracay beach, under the stars,
followed by a bar-hopping evening will only place a small dent in your
pocket. Every night on the island can be a Boracay party night.
Since Boracay
Island has unquestionably the best Philippine beach and the widest
choice of Philippine beach hotels, many Philippine travel agencies and
Philippine tours concentrate their activities around a Boracay
itinerary. Boracay is also a popular place for Philippine beach
weddings. |
Boracay
Island combines crystal clear waters, the legendary white sands of Boracay
beach and lush hilly landscapes into an idyllic tropical Philippine
vacation that we promise will enchant and lull visitors into the laidback
way of tropical life. This small island, only eight kilometers long and one
kilometer wide at its narrowest point, is located just off the northern tip
of the large neighboring island of Panay. The northern and southern parts of
Boracay Island rise into the picturesque hills, with elevations of 100
meters above sea level, that face the sea with beaches at one end and
weather worn cliffs at the other.
On your arrival secure yourself, a copy of the Boracay map. Here
you can find one of the finest beaches in the world - Boracay
White Beach, a broad 3.5 kilometer stretch of white sun
drenched sand, washed by perpetually clear turquoise water. The
pure white beaches of Boracay are a sun worshipper's heaven on
earth . Just lazing under the palm trees in the tropical sun is
a favorite Boracay vacation past time.
Boracay
weather is warm all year round but there is a dry season and a
rainy season. During the dry season (December to July) White
Beach is leeward shore which results in a calm, turquoise seas,
ideal for frolics in the warm water to cool off from the
tropical heat. During this period, the opposite, eastern side,
forms the windward shore, with almost continuous onshore winds
and protective reefs that create an ideal environment for both
the novice and the experienced wind surfer or kite boarder. The
"Fun Board" International Windsurfing Cup is held in this area
during January - February each year when the winds are at their
best. The eastern shore also contains numerous sheltered and
picturesque bays, rewarding the ardent walker with many great
scenic views. The Boracay scuba diving schools and water sports
outlets along the beaches offers the best equipment for rental
and expert instructions at reasonable prices, including scuba
gear, sailing, kite boarding and wind surfing equipment. Boracay
dive schools are some of the most popular dive school location
in Asia with good shallow nearby coral dives and drop-offs to
depths of thirty meters. For more leisurely pursuits, the full
day trip of picnicking and snorkeling around the island by local
boat is popular among travelers and can be easily
arranged. These trips usually include island hopping, picnic
lunch set in an isolated beach and visit to the northern caves,
home of the giant fruit bats and other sites of interest. |
|
For active
landlubbers the interior of the island extends a natural
invitation to hike or mountain bike the many trails
crisscrossing the gentle hilly slopes, while offering scenic
views along the way. Alternatively, a tour of the island, using
typical Boracay transportation of motorized tricycle, can be
arranged.
At the end of
the day, watch the spectacular sunsets from Nigi Nigi beachfront
bar, a popular Boracay photograph. Our bar offers a large
variety of tropical cocktails and refreshing juices and is a
relaxing place to start your evening. Many early evening
strollers enjoy the hour or two walk along the length of White
Beach before the serenity of the ocean views are overtaken by
the awakening of the vibrant Boracay nightlife. The many
Boracay restaurants offer a variety of international cuisines
and together with the discos and the cozy bars, add an
international flair to the evening. A Boracay vacation offers an
ideal escape from the stresses of the hectic world but if one
needs to remain in contact with the outside world then
international phone, fax and internet services are available at
Nigi Nigi.
Many visitors
return again and again to Boracay, finding that the island
manages to tantalize its visitors while offering all the
facilities wanted by a traveler, at very reasonable prices,
while still providing a tropical escape. On your arrival ask
your Boracay Resort receptionist about the many Boracay tour
packages.
For those
interested in longer stays there are Boracay real estate agents that
can offer long term villa rentals and homes for sale. However,
it maybe wiser to stay in a Boracay resort for a short period
prior to making long term Boracay accommodation commitments.
Over the last
ten years many traditional native style cottages along the
Boracay beach have been replaced by large condominium type
hotels, while Nigi Nigi's Philippine beach resort , which has
also been continuously refurbished, remains styled in its
original native cottage and lush tropical garden concept, making
it a unique place to experience the old Boracay while enjoying
some of the deluxe furnishings of modern life.

The
most convenient routing to Boracay is to fly direct from Manila to Caticlan,
the airport closest to Boracay. The airport is located just opposite Boracay
on the neighbouring island of Panay. The flight takes approximately one
hour. We can arrange the flight bookings, purchase the tickets and have
them available for pick up at the Domestic Airport in Manila. The cost is
approximately USD85.00 per adult, each way.
There
are two carriers that fly between Manila and Caticlan on a regular basis,
with a total of approximately 20 flights per day. They are small, local
carriers using aircraft that seat twenty to fifty passengers. These aircraft
fly at approximately 9,000 feet and so the flight is very scenic. During
the high season, especially over Christmas, Chinese New Year and Easter,
advance booking is highly recommended to guarantee a seat.
All
internal flights, except Philippine Airlines, depart from the Domestic
Terminal which adjoins (Manila) Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Allow
a two and a half hour transfer period between the time of landing at one
airport section and departing the other.
There
are also jets that fly between Manila and Kalibo on a regular basis and
the cost for these flights is also approximately USD75.00 per person,
each way. The aircraft used on this route are larger than that used to
fly to Caticlan, so this route is recommended if you do not like medium
sized aircraft. From Kalibo to Caticlan is a 1 1/2 hour air conditioned
bus ride through very scenic countryside directly to the jetty port at
Caticlan where boats depart frequently for the twenty minute crossing
to Boracay.
We
can arrange the land and sea transfers from either Caticlan or Kalibo Airport.

Boracay Scuba Diving
Boracay, as a magnificent national marine preserve, is one of the most popular
Philippine dive areas in Southeast Asia with currently thirty state-of-the-art
Boracay dive schools
offering the entire range of Philippine scuba diving activities from basic demonstrations through
to advanced level certifications. Borocay is a great Philippine scuba diving holiday location,
simply because it combines a wide range of Philippine dive tour activities with one of the best
beaches in the world plus the numerous good quality resorts, restaurants, bars
and night time events.
Most Boracay dive schools offer P.A.D.I. courses in English plus one or two
additional languages. On surveying the various languages offered by the
dive schools centred around Nigi Nigi's Boracay Beach Resort on White Beach we find dive services
and instruction in English, French, Hebrew, German, Korean, Japanese, Italian,
Spanish and Swedish. For safety reasons it is preferable for beginners
to receive instruction in their mother tongue. If you require detailed
information about Boracay scuba diving courses conducted in a language other than English,
let Nigi Nigi select the most suitable dive school for you.
In order for non-divers to experience the wonders of the underwater
world most schools offer short P.A.D.I. Discover Scuba Diving Introductory
plus Beginner's Open Water Courses. White Beach, with its warm tranquil
waters and gentle sandy slope, is the ideal place for those first training
sessions followed by shallow yet exhilarating dives to the local coral
reefs, where the student can enjoy the vast richness of tropical reef life,
while still training within a calm protected environment. The Discover
Scuba Diving program is purely an introductory course completed within
one day, with intro-lectures, video, shallow water equipment demonstration
followed by the first chaperoned dive. For beginners wishing to proceed
to the first level P.A.D.I. certification, all schools offer 4 day Open
Water Courses (O.W.), which is the most recognized international certification.
The O.W. course includes thorough equipment familiarization and basic scuba
diving techniques and includes extensive lectures and three to four adventurous
dives designed to progressively increase the skill level of the student.
For those wishing to upgrade their P.A.D.I. certification level the Boracay
scuba diving schools offer the full range of P.A.D.I. courses from Advanced level to
Instructor training programs.
For certified divers Boracay and its surroundings offer a wide variety
of dive excursions including spectacular coral gardens, deep wall drop-offs,
drift and night dives. With a well planned dive schedule a qualified diver
can complete up to four exciting dives a day. To expand your diving enjoyment
many Boracay scuba diving schools offer overnight dive safaris to the
surrounding islands, each with unique underwater treasures making Boracay Island
a premier center for Philippine scuba diving and a great Philippine vacation.
Prices among the dive schools vary only marginally and the following

Boracay
is extremely scenic, with many challenging and varied routes around the
island, some 25 kilometres long. Most of the routes are on loose dirt
roads and steep climbs up to lookout points that give spectacular views
across clear, blue waters to the distant islands. Then a steep drop down
along single track paths through thick vegetation and native villages
to another deserted beach. Cycling along these beaches at low tide is
an exhilarating experience and then finally back through the coconut groves
to the main beach. Rides may end with a long cool swim in the ocean.
This certainly adds a new dimension to your Philippine vacation.
Bike rentals are available at US $ 2.00 per
hour or US $ 12.00 per day. For the serious biker we suggest that you bring
your own bicycle. If it comes as extra baggage from Manila to Caticlan,
the cost is minimal. For longer two or three day trips the Nigi Nigi boat
will take you to Caticlan on the island of Panay where the opportunities
for adventurous cycling are unlimited.

Boracay Travel Information
Travel Light -
- The Boracay dress code is definitely casual-24 hours a day. 90% of
the time you'll be
- standing on sand, even in restaurants, so bring sensible walking shoes.
- Remember the old packing maxim - " when vacationing pack two cases
but only take one "
- - this definitely applies to Boracay since all tourist bits and pieces are
readily
- available.
Typical Weather -
- Mid November to Mid May : Dry season-average mid-day temp. 32 degrees celsius
- blue skies - calm seas - cool sea breezes.
- Mid May to Mid July : Mixed season, breezy with showers 1 hour per day -
blue skies.
- Mid July to Mid November : rainy season - average mid-day temp. - 30 degrees
celsius - blue-cloudy skies, fresh and breezy, choppy seas, normally rains
2 hours during the day and 1 or 2 hours at night. This is also the typhoon
season that brings stormy weather periodically and normally lasts about 3-4
days.
Health -
No current health warnings (check Nigi Nigi's E-mail for last minute update
). However while on Boracay it's advisable to drink sealed bottled mineral water
only. Ice is O.K. since it's made from chlorinated water. Remember to drink
a lot while in a tropical climate, particularly if you're exercising or exposed
to the sun. The biggest health hazards on Boracay are sun-burn and the day after
effects of alcohol - both self inflicted wounds - so take it easy. It's particularly
important in a salty-tropical environment to keep all skin wounds covered. A
small, common sense, medical kit is a wise travelling companion.
Boracay Service Facilities, include -
A Provincial hospital, medical clinics, pharmacies, supermarkets, fresh veg.
and wet seafood markets ( buy some fish or perhaps a lobster and have it cooked
by Nigi Nigi's kitchen magicians ), one hour photo shops, churches, gyms, internet
centers, Real Estate offices, 4 banks (banking hours 5 days/wk. 9.0 a.m. till
4.0 p.m., some with international ATMs), exchange bureaus, laundry, post office
