YAMASA MISSION 2012
Over the next 3 weeks members of our parish, community and others involved in this ministry will be working to improve the lives of those in Yamasa in Dominican Republic. Yours prayers for their success and well being are appreciated.
FIRST RECONCILIATION
This coming Monday students from St. Anthony receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Students from Our Lady of Good Counsel will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Wednesday evening.
Parent meetings for First Communion will follow on the same evening.

MORNING AND EVENING PRAYER
On Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:45 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday mornings after Mass, here at OLGC we will pray Morning and Evening prayer, the prayer of the Church.
PARISH FUNERAL LUNCHES
Parishioners have been most generous in the past few years in helping to supply lunches when we have had funerals.
These lunches are the responsibility of the parish for our deceased brothers and sisters. The role of the CWL is in coordinating and serving the lunches.
All parish members are included in the contact list for these lunches. If you feel unable to help in the preparation of food please consider making a monetary contribution to help in the purchase of supplies.

LIGHTHOUSE MEDIA CD’S
A number of new CD’s have been added to the rack at the back of Our Lady of Good Counsel. These CD’s make an excellent companion for those travelling this winter.

FOOD BANK
The need for generosity within our community does not end with the start of a new year. Please remember that the fourth Sunday of each month (January 22nd) is considered FOOD BANK SUNDAY within our parishes.
Your generosity throughout the Christmas Season was appreciated. Envelopes with donations may also be placed in the collection basket. Please mark these clearly for the Food Bank.
EMPTY BOWLS
In support of the Food Bank there will be an “Empty Bowls” event at the Christian Education Centre on Sunday, January 22nd. Come and enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread and take home the unique bowl that you have chosen for your soup. All bowls are made by local artisans in support of this event. Cost is $25. per bowl (meal). Tickets may be purchased at Monica’s Pantry. For more information please see the notice on the bulletin board at the back of the church.
WORLD DAY OF THE SICK
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES
Pope John Paul II established the celebration of the World Day of the Sick on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. The parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish will be celebrating its feast day on Saturday, February 11th at 11 am. The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered to those who seek the healing power of God’s love in their lives. Everyone is invited to attend as we pray for those who are sick and for all those who care for the sick.

The Sisters of St. Joseph in Pembroke as part of their prayer ministry pray for various Religious throughout our Diocese on each day of the month. In January, their primary prayer focus is on Christian Unity in the Family and in the World and on Friday January 20th, their prayer intention is for Father Brennan and the parishes in Chalk River and Deep River.

BROTHERLY LOVE
A parish teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her 8 & 9 year-olds. After explaining the commandment to “honor thy father and thy mother,” she asked, “Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?”
Without missing a beat, one boy, the oldest of five siblings, answered, “Thou shalt not kill.”

The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a Holy Hour at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Deep River after the 7 p.m. mass on Thursday, January 19th. The Holy hour will consist of a Prayer Service before a touring image of Our Lady of Guadelupe seeking her intercession for faith renewal, the development of a culture of life and world peace.

CLOTHING COLLECTION FOR MISSION TRIP TO CHINCHA, PERU
A small group of laypersons, including Ron and Deborah Desrochers of OLGC Parish, will be joining Sr. Pauline Coulterman on a visit to Chincha this February. This mission trip will support the ongoing work to continue the education of children in this district and their families. Please pray for the mission trip. In addition to your prayers, you could donate items for us to carry in our luggage. The following items would be appreciated: baby clothes (NB to 12 m size sleepers, cloth diapers, plastic pants), children’s clothes (ages 4 – 12 T-shirts, shorts, bathing suits), pantyhose, small stuffed toys, or letters/cards for your sponsored children. 613-584-2711
