Holtom Family History taken from Ancestry.co.uk by Doreen Townsend (White) John Charles Holtom born 4 Dec 1836 In St Marylebone Westminster London he lived at 34 Princess Street? {Not quite clear on baptisms record1813-1906} His Parents are John & Ann Holtom occupation carpenter. On my Great, Great, Grandmother Birth cert Sarah Ann Holtom Townsend it gives her parents names as John Charles Holtom & Sarah Ann Jones. Children Born of John Charles Holtom and Sarah Ann Holtom Jones are as follows: 1. Alice Emily Holtom Born Nov 21 1860 to Dec 1860 Died 1 month old on Baptisms her Dads occupation Bricklayer address 3 Ling Mews (not very clear on baptism record) 2. John William Holtom Baptise 1863 ( no death found for him) his Dads Occupation bricklayer they lived at 30 Cirencester Street 3. Charles William Holtom Baptised 1863 (at the same time with Brother John above) Charles died in 1868 age 7 years old Lived at the same address as John. 4. Ada Emily Holtom Baptised 7 March 1871 Kensington died 1872 Age 1 lived at 51Cirencester St Kensington. Her Dads Occupation Bricklayer. 5. Mary Ann Holtom Baptised 12 Dec 1872 Died 1873 lived at 31 Cirencester st her dad\rquote s occupation Bricklayer. 6.Annie Maria Holtom Baptism 27 March 1863 lived at 40 Cirencester St Dad occupation Bricklayer; she married Thomas Henry Fenton Oct 1882 in the parish church of Paddington London the bride and groom are both down as living at 5 Boundary Rd the Groom has signed his name with a cross. On the 1871 census the Holtom family are living in Cirencester St (see Copy) Dad is a bricklayer.1881 census they are living at 163 Southam St Kensington her Brother Arthur is aged 4 her sister Sarah is 14 and Annie is aged 19 her dad is not shown as working (See copy). On the 1901 census Annie is living at 96 Walmer Rd Kensington London Annie Aged 38 is with her husband Thomas aged 35 and her adopted Daughter Amy Townsend aged 8 born1893 I believe this is Thomas Townsend and Harriet Townsend (Gay) Daughter. Annie's Sister Sarah Ann. (Holtom) Townsend also adopted a Daughter of Thomas and Harriet Townsend born Florence Maud Townsend 25 April 1886 and Thomas and Harriet were living at 4 Globule Gardens (see Baptism record) on The 1891 Census Florence is with her mum and Dad and sisters living at 71 Southam st Kensington London (see copy) as you can see the Holtom's also lived in Southam St in1881 Sarah Ann Holtom was Married to William Townsend ,Thomas Townsends' brother. On the 1901 Census Florence is living with Sarah Ann (Holtom) Townsend and her husband William, and there, very large family who the eldest son John is my Granddad (see copy) they were living at 197 Kensal Rd Kensington. In 1911 census Thomas and Annie are living at 58 Walmer Rd Kensington they live in two rooms and they are both age 48 and Amy Edith Townsend is with them age 18 I have found a birth Index born in Kensington Quarter Oct Nov Dec 1892 / Death index 8 Sept 1970 reg dist Harrow. Annie and Thomas never had children of there own Amy Never got Married her occupation in 1911 she working in a laundry with Annie. See copy of 1911 census. 7. Sarah Ann Holtom born December the thirtieth 1865 Saint Mary Paddington London her father was John Charles Holtom, her mother was Sarah Ann Jones I have been unable to find any marriage for them they were living at 59 Woodchester St. (see copy of birth cert) Her baptism 4 of January 1866 and they were living at 26 Cirencester St .Sarah married William Townsend 29 th November 1885 and both Groom and bride were living at 147 Southam Rd Kensington London 5 houses down from the Holtoms in 1881. Occupation of William Townsend coach maker, John Charles Holtom Bricklayer .Children of Sarah and William are John 1887-1951(my Granddad) Thomas Ernest1900-1959, Matilda1888, Emily1890, Freddy 1894, George1896 Mable1898, Lily. Sarah died 1939 William died1942 see Townsend Family history by Peter Townsend Son of Thomas Ernest. They also had adopted Florence Townsend Daughter of Thomas and Harriet Townsend Brother of William Townsend see1901 census.1911 census William and Sarah are still living at197 Kensal Rd Kensington John Townsend is not with them he is now married to Edith Goodger living at 42 Hazelwood crescent in three Rooms with four of the first children out of 12 see copy of Census. 8. Matilda Holtom born 1867 baptism 7 th March 1871 in the parish of Paddington London, she was baptised at the same time as her sister Ada who died in 1872. (Baptism record).her address is 51Cirencester St. Matilda Married 15 march 1890 in the parish of Christ church Notting hill London to George Biddle they were both 23 George was a painter it was witness by her sister Sarah Ann Townsend (My Great Grand Mother)Matilda has made her mark with a cross. Both groom and bride are living at 218 Kensal Rd Kensington London.1871 censuses show Matilda age 4 a mistake on her name down as Della but right age for her see copy and they were living at 51 Cirencester with her mum an dad and sister's .1881 census she is living at 36 New Church rd Camberwell London and is a general domestic help with a family called Wright. Edward Wright who s profession is a dissenting Minister non-conformist; one who dose not accept the doctrine of an established church. (See copy of census). 1911 census George and Matilda are living at 82 Walmer Rd Kensington London with Daughters Lily, Catherine, and son Albert. Catherine profession is a Salvation Army officer. Lily was born in 1891 district Chelsea she married Herbert Edwards 1915 in Paddington London. Catherine Biddle born 17 Aug 1892 never married Died 1971 Camberwell London. Albert Biddle born 1899 London married 25 Dec 1920 Kensington to Ellen Marian Green Witness by Herbert Edwards Lily 's Husband. Both groom and bride are living at 17 Silchester St Hammersmith. 9. Arthur Holtom Born 1876 Apr-May-June Quarter Kensington.\ Baptised March 30th 1876 Parents John Charles & Sarah ann. Holtom Lived at 31 Cirencester St Dad is a Bricklayer. Arthur Married Emma Blaxall both Bride and groom are living at 16 Adair Rd Marriage witness by his sister Annie Holtom (Fenton).He is on the 1871 census, 1881 census, with his sisters and mum and Dad.1901 Census He now has children of his own and is living at 6 Aldermaston St Kensington London he has with him his wife Emma and Daughters Matilda son John C and Gertrude. Matilda Born 1898 Kensington London she married Charles Edward Hodges in 1919 28 Sept Witness by her sister Gertrude.Matilda was living at 43 Fardy St Kensington London. Gertrude was born 20 th Oct 1899 in the parish of Notting hill London. Arthur her Dad is a laundry man and they were living at 24 Artisans Dwellings (I think that these were very poor peoples homes?) she married Albert Lansdowne in 1920 quarter of Oct-Nov-Dec Hammersmith London. John Charles born 1898 to 1985? Married Elizabeth Hines1923? Liley Born 1901 17th Oct Arthur was a laundryman they lived at 5Aldermasterton Street Kensington London. Lily was married to Bill Langford or William (was unable to find a marriage for them born) Gladys was born 1903 Kensington London married Albert Phelps 1930 Kensington London (died 7\super th Oct 1993 Southend on sea Essex ? ) see death index. Catherine (kitty) born 1906 Kensington London Arthur .A born 1910 Kensington. 1911 census Arthur and Emma are living at 20 Fowell St Kensington London he is a labourer they had 8 children with no losses they may have had more as he was only 35years old in 1911. Holtom childrens parents John Charles Holtom born 1836 4 Dec Parish of Christchurch Westminster London His parents, John and Ann Holtom they lived at 34 Princess St (not quite clear on Baptism record) His dad was a carpenter. Sarah Ann Jones born 1835 9 Dec Southwork London parents John and Harriet they lived at Salisbury St her dad was a grocer. Sarah Died 1903 aged 68years in Kensington. John Charles Holtom died 1898 age 62 at 96 Walmer rd (this is the address Annie is living in1901) Arthur is the informant he is living next door 94 Walmer Rd see death cert.
