CAROL TOWNSEND

Carol Townsend decided in 1990 that she wanted to work for a UK Christian Missionary organisation. The following is a descripton of her work and  dedication to helping the worlds needy.

Carol  is the daughter of Douglas and  Brenda Townsend.

Carol came to  the decision in 1990 that she wanted to join missionaries providing aid to the needy around the world.  After becoming very interested in the work of a particular missionary organisation  "Carol said that she felt that she was called by God to work for them".

This was quite a big decision, as she would have to "live by faith" i.e. no income. Her church was very supportive and funded part of her needs, then friends and family gave support as they could.

So in 1990 she joined the organisation and did their six months introduction  training course, when this was completed she became part of the home base administration team.

Since then she has been seconded from time to time to another Christian based organisation that moves into places in the world where
disaster has struck. She spent six months in Mozambiqe after the awful flood. She was involved in building homes for those who had lost everything. Carol's responsibility was sourcing all the materials. If she wanted wood, she went and bought a tree and  had to get it cut to size, if she wanted power tools, she would have to drive to South Africa and visit many outlets. She has also worked in Afghanistan working as an administrator on a health project. Her last role was in Parkistan when they had the recent earthquake, where again she was in an administrative role. She returned from Parkistan very unwell having picked up a bug, this took months to get right.

Her missionary work gets her invoved with Youth camps and Expeditions to other countries. One trek she did recently was driving an ex army lorry through Europe and Africa for a period of 10 weeks visiting missionaries and also working on all sorts of projects as they went. There were 12 people in the party.

As I write Carol is in the middle of changing her role in the missionary organisation she works for, and will be involved in the administration and the redevelopment of the headquarters building. But will still be available should she be required in other area's of the world.
