Ernie Townsend, son of John and Grandson of William wrote the following story in 1991. It is basically
the history of the Townsend's and the London Electricity Authority. Starting with Grandfather William
and all those that followed in his footsteps from 1873 onwards
|

Mr John William Townsend’s family consisted of four sons and four daughters. His son Mr John Townsend
had Eight sons and four daughters. In and around the Bromley and Downham area there are six sons and
four daughters. In 1991 the youngest was 66 old and the eldest 88 years old. Home address was 42 Hay-------?
Crescent, North Kensington. Then moved to Downham estate, 33 Downberry road 1927, The youngest son has
been there since one year old, now 66! Mr Chris Townsend retired from the print, married. A family story
to be told by Mr E Townsend later.
Fred and Grandfather and our father paid into two hospitals
in London, Manor House and St Ormonds out of their wages at Depford station. Also sold scores of raffle
books for them around London and in Kensinton at three shillings a book. I won second prize of two pounds
ten shillings.

He employed
the men on the Mains and also some of the Family. My Father, his eldest son (John Townsend) started
in the l900's and became a Mains Foreman for LESCO. They both employed their family and relations.
My Father employed his son (Albert Townsend) on the Mains for LESCO. That was the start of 5 generations

clarify this.
