The map to the right shows a close-up view of the route to Lake Michikamau.  The green coloured route is the Innu Portage.  The brown coloured route is the portage north of the Maid Marion gorge taken by Wallace and his team in 1905.  Mina and her team found what turned out to be an easier portage to the south of the gorge, located by team member Job Chapies.

Those who’ve retraced the 1905 trips in the modern era tend to take the Innu Portage and Job’s portage.  The alternatives are much more difficult under today’s conditions.  Alexandra Pratt and her Innu guide attempted to take the Naskaupi route in 2001 and had to turn back (reference her book Lost Lands, Forgotten Stories).
