About our nursery:
Reilly's Country Gardens, in business for 20 years, is a home-based, family-run specialty nursery which grows and sells perennials hardy in the Ottawa Valley. We are in growing zone 5(a) [or USDA Zone 4]. Our business has evolved form a hobby and love of plants. We hadn't planned on doing this as a business, but it is now a thriving venture with four employees. We are located about 30 minutes west of downtown Ottawa (Canada's national capital) near the small rural town of Kinburn, Ontario.
Enjoy a walk around our 1 acre property bursting with display gardens. See mature plants growing in well-labelled gardens, not just in pots on nursery benches. Our gardens, displaying over 2000 varieties of perennials hardy in this area, are in the scale that fit in a city lot - you can see how the plants fit together for all-season visual interest. You will find sun and shade display beds, a scree rock garden and ornamental grass displays. There's something for everyone and more to come.
We are keenly aware of environmental issues, so maintain our gardens and run our nursery using ecological principles. We don't use persistant chemicals on bugs as we know the bugs are food for other members of our local food chain. We, and you, are rewarded with a diverse butterfly and bird population in the gardens.
We encourage customers to ask questions of our staff - take advantage of their, and our, expertise. Pat Nicholson & Marjorie Vendrig have been gardening in this area for years. Matthew Stephens, with us for 2 years, has been a very quick learner and can guide you to most gardening solutions or introduce you to us. We have even been known to suggest that customers not buy plants arriving at our cash-out counter because they are inappropriate for ordinary growing conditions. We want successful gardens and happy customers!
Each year we add new plant varieties to our display gardens and increase the variety available for sale. This year you can choose from over 800 varieties - one of the largest selections in Eastern Ontario.

Employment Opportunities:
In 2003 we will need to hire additional seasonal help for the nursery. Horticultural experience, either by training or from years of self-education through gardening or work in related horticultural trades, are basic needs for employment. Garden/landscape-experienced staff is one of our prime 'pluses' in the marketplace. Of course our wage package reflects this added experience! We also have a 40-hour volunteer program for individuals looking for gardening and nursery experience. Volunteers are 'paid' in knowledge gains and discounted plants from the nursery. If either of these opportunities interest you, phone or email us with your inquiries.
We hope you come and explore what our specialty perennial nursery has to offer you. You'll find lots of exciting perennial plants not found at other nurseries. This year we are also continuing to expand our line of containers and choice plants for stunning container displays.
