THE UNITED CHURCH

OF CANADA

United Church of Canada Motto:   Ut Omnes Unum Sint

(The Latin words Ut Omnes Unum Sint that surround the symbols on the crest mean “That all may be one” and are taken from John 17:21. They are a reminder that we are both a “united” and “uniting” church.)

The United Church of Canada was formed in 1925 through a union of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist churches in Canada. For more detailed information about the United Church, please click on one of the following links.

    A NEW CREED

The United Church uses a creed called “A New Creed”. Hardly new, it was originally adopted in 1969, revised in 1980 and again in 1994. The current version is:

        We are not alone,
          we live in God's world.

        We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
          who has come in Jesus,
            the Word made flesh,
            to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
            by the Spirit.

        We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:
          to celebrate God's presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
          to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
            our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,
          God is with us.
        We are not alone.

        Thanks be to God.
