Bacillus brevis (Brevibacillus brevis) is an aerobic Gram-positive bacillus (rods) found in the soil, air, water, and decaying matter. Its optimal growth temperature is between 35°C and 55°C. The antibiotics gramicidin and tyrocidine were first isolated from it. The bacillus forms spores but it is rarely associated with infectious diseases. It may be isolated from the soil. It is available commercially in pure form.
