Bacillus brevis (Brevibacillus brevis) is an aerobic Gram-positive bacillus (rods) found in the soil, air, water, and decaying matter. Its optimal growth temperature is between 35°C and 55°C. The antibiotics gramicidin and tyrocidine were first isolated from it. The bacillus forms spores but it is rarely associated with infectious diseases. It may be isolated from the soil.
