Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Parishioners have been getting to know each
other better through an event called "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner". Folks
offer to be hosts and others offer to be guests for lunch, dinner, tea. The
hosts do not know who is coming until they arrive -- although they have
numbers, information on likes dislikes, allergies etc. The first events were
on April 14th, with the last one being scheduled for May 19th.
Here are some pictures of a High Tea held yesterday at the home of Liz
Norris and Sylvi Dawes.
The Chilli Cookoff - Feb 25, 2012
On Saturday, Feb 25th, no less than twelve chefs
prepared chilli for our chilli cook off. All of the offerings were
absolutely delicious and the results were close. In the end, prize winners
were as follows: First Place, Roger Stone; Second Place, Nicole Dalloway and
Steve Dow (tied for second place); Third Place, Liz Norris.
We all had a lovely time and were entertained
by the children as they twirled around the room in high spirits.

Table December 17, 2011
Christmas came early on Saturday December 17th at St. Thomas Open Table
Community Meal. Many “elves” helped to prepare and serve to almost 100
guests a festive meal of roast turkey with all the trimmings followed by a
scrumptious ice cream yule log. The evening was made extra special by the
colourful table settings and most enjoyable musical entertainment provided
by Fern Massey and friends.
The Open Table Meal, held the third Saturday
of each month (except July and August), is open to all at no charge. Doors
open at 4:30 pm and meal is served at 5:00 pm.
Advent 1, November 27, was "Back to Church Sunday" at St. Thomas. It was an
opportunity to invite people who do not ordinarily attend church to come to
a service. A cake was provided downstairs with other refreshments.
Cornerstone provided contemporary music and the church was decorated for
Advent.

Youth Cottage weekend at Rev. Jane's cottage - June 10, 2011
On Saturday, June 4th about 25 members of the congregation came together for
a
“visioning day” in response to Gift - Growing in Faith Together. We broke
into groups to consider and dream our future faith community at St. Thomas
based on our mission statement. The statement is here on this site, and you
will note the three main ideas. We had fun even though our imaginations were
stretched in the process. It was interesting to see the number of times we
reached consensus. I think we can call the day a success based on the
comment of a participant who summed it up with, “This was more fun than I
thought it was going to be!” We will be looking forward to the input of all;
this is vital. Please feel free to
discuss and enquire about Gift with any parish council member....

On
Saturday September 18th the 7th Open Table at St. Thomas was held in the Church
Hall. Approximately 75 people in all sat down to enjoy a lovely meal of roast
pork and gravy, with apple sauce, mashed potatoes, corn and salad. Two kinds of
cake were served for dessert. This Community meal is held on the 3rd Saturday
of each month, it is completely free but donations are accepted from anyone who
wishes to give. The pictures show only a part of the gathering, the real spirit
of the occasion is heard in the buzz of conversation as people meet old friends
and make new ones. (4 photos)
