Moving To Chateau Dollard

Cathy taking a break while cleaning out the apartment at 200 Ernest in Dollard des OrmeauxOur last major move had been from our bungalow in Pierrefonds to our brand new two bedroom apartment in the Dutch co-operative apartment building in Dollard des Ormeaux. That was a colossal task as we had lived there for 28 years and we had tons of stuff to get rid of. It took a lot out of Guus to prepare for it and to help the guys with the move. This move was not as colossal. But still, it is surprising how much you accumulate in those 10 years. Ben and Cathy spent a lot of effort and time preparing for this move. Cathy works tirelessly and it so well organized. Cathy taking a break while cleaning out the apartment at 200 Ernest in Dollard des OrmeauxI am glad I decided to move back to the apartment for two days prior to going to Chateau Dollard. It gave me a little time to adjust. Finally Sunday arrived and it was time to move. We rented a cube van from Avis and by noon the heavy task to move was at hand. It went amazingly well. Cathy, Ben, Nick, Arthur and Arthur's girlfriend Pam made it all happen by 5:00 PM. Arthur is not only strong but during his university days, he had a summer job as a mover, so he knows all the tricks of the trade. They managed to get it all in my new apartment while I could comfortably sit and direct where things had to go. There was still a lot of stuff in the old apartment but most of that was meant for distribution to Ron and Cathy and Ben, their kids and other useful venues. There was no haste with that as my apartment had not yet been rented.

I live in Chateau Dollard which is a senior citizens' residences for those who can basically look after themselves but from time to time need some extra care. This is referred to as assisted living. I live in my own apartment which consists of a bed/living room, a hallway with closet space, a mini kitchen including a small fridge and my own bathroom. There is a common bright dining room where they serve tasty meals three times a day. I do my own personal laundry in the laundromat while the apartment staff wash my beddings, towels etc. I'd like to show you my apartment, so come along on this virtual tour of my place.

As you enter my apartment, my mini kitchen, as you can see below, is directly on the left and my bathroom right behind it.
My little kitchen where I can prepare a few things with my toaster oven, coffee maker
As you continue on down the hall, after hanging up your coat in the closet, you enter directly into my room which serves as a living room and bedroom. I've asked Ben to take four pictures to show you how my room looks. The walls look rather bare and that is because these pictures were taken right after I moved in. Immediately to you left, is my sleeping area where you will find my bed and dresser.

Turning slightly to your right, or facing westward, you will see where I spend a good part of my day in my chair reading, writing, visiting with my friends and watching TV.
My sitting area
Now looking straight north, you see my big window which can open to provide lots of fresh air. Though you can't see as the picture was taken in the evening, I have a great outlook over a football field length of grass to a significant 4 lane road. I enjoy watching the light traffic and the odd bus drive by.

And lastly is my east wall. That's where my TV is located and my favourite piece of furniture, the hutch, that has been with us wherever we lived since Guus and I lived in Scheveningen.

Now I want to show you one more thing, our dining room. I really enjoy the meals at Chateau Dollard as there are 4 choices of menus for every meal. But I also appreciate the atmosphere and bright view from the dining room windows. Have a look below where I am having lunch with Cathy.
