Chapter - Fred was buying ships

Fred was buying ships. He liked to get all his ships in one go, partly because the PA pages were slow, partly because it felt good to get all the ships he possibly could in one purchase.

If he got as many war frigates as possible, how much crystal would be left for spiders? And why weren't there any inexpensive ships with lots of crystal and a bit of metal, to balance the war frigates?

"Fred!"

"What, Mom?" And he'd intercepted two scans today, he needed the extra defence.

"Come here, please, your father and I want to talk to you about summer camp."

"Just a minute, Mom. I just have to buy these ships and log out."

"Now, Fred, we can't wait all night for you to play that stupid war game."

Click - ships ordered - if he kept the connection open until the server finished his request.

"Frederick, are you off the phone yet?"

"Mom, one minute by the clock. That's all it takes. 60 seconds."

"Fred, I asked you politely. Now I'm telling you. Get down here this minute!"

"Mom? Are you being reasonable?"

The clunk of a phone, then "Hisssssh-a-a-a-a-a-zhnongzhnong".

"Fred! You were still playing that stupid war game, weren't you? I thought I told you to stop!"
