"OK. I'm at the upstairs phone." Mrs. Sternson was panting a little from hurrying up the stairs. "There's a strange car parked in the Ellsley's driveway. Do you think that's them?"

"It probably is. Let me know if you see anyone in the house." Miriam was talking on Angie's cell phone while John talked to the police on the main phone.

"All right, where's the camera?" Warren held Rodney firmly by his bound left arm as they entered the house.

"Right there on the coffee table, wrapped in a towel."

Warren picked it up, and checked the picture count. "12 pictures. That's all from this morning?"

"Yup. New film today."

"Well now." Warren expertly opened the camera with his gloved hands and pulled out the film in a long black streamer. "You'll have to go canoeing again some time, and take your camera with you."

"Sure."

"Let's go."

"There's a man coming out of the house with Rodney. His face looks blurry somehow."

"That's because he has a nylon over his head, Mrs. Sternson," Miriam explained. Then she told John. "Rodney and one man are leaving the house, and going to the car."

"What kind of car is it, Mrs. Sternson?"

"Well, it's brown, and it's got 4 doors. I think it's a North American car, not Japanese. It doesn't look very new, but maybe it's just dusty. It's hard to tell from here."

"Right. The police will be there in a minute to ask you some questions. Keep looking to see which way it goes."

"All right, then, Miriam. It's starting out now, and they're heading toward Toronto. My, there's no hubcap on the right rear wheel. Do you think that will help them?"

The police were questioning the teens at Fred's house.

"Yes, Constable George, the film is safe. Rodney figured out the phone was tapped right after we talked to Fred. He put in a new roll and insisted on taking time to click a bunch of pictures of the floor before we left, and left the camera on a wet towel on the coffee table. We dumped the film in the back of the flower bed by his front door before we left."
